Hello my name is Fuzzy, I hope you are having a nice day. I am new to surf fishing. I plan on going surf fishing in New Jersey this summer to be more specific Island Beach State Park. I plan on buying this: www.amazon.com/Shakespeare-Medium-Action-Bigwater-10-Feet/dp/B002VPT72O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=JNUF2TTP8EFB&coliid=IZN92TU0KAR0B&psc=1 I plan on strictly fishing on the beach. I want to just cast my line and set my rod on a sand spike. I do not want to be jigging or anything. So my five questions are: 1. Is a 10 foot rod appropriate for surf fishing? 2. Is a medium, heavy action rod an ideal action for a surf fishing rod? 3. What lb and kind of line do I need for a 10 foot, medium heavy action rod? And how does one go about matching the proper lb test line to match their rod? 5. What should the rod be rated? 4. Any other things I should know about surf fishing? Thank you and happy fishing!

Hey man thanks for registering you are only the 2nd to do so we just started May 1st and the site just went live last week. To see what events we have coming up you always can check our events section and I will email you event invites. Well Read about us in the about us section of the site and join up with us if you think that this is something you want to be part of, we don't have time requirements for memberships we understand people have personal lives and priorities, so members are as active as they can be based on their personal lives.
As far as equipment and surf fishing I would go with a rod between 10 ft and 12 ft. Based on what you are most comfortable with, I started with a 10ft but now use two 11 ft and I am about to get another 12 ft for just bait fishing. What brands and what to get is really based on what your budget is for rod and reel. So what's your budget and I can make some suggestions.
